The Flip by Michael Phillip Cash Book Review

Yup, that's right--I just read another one of Michael Phillip Cash's books. I can't help it. His writing just pulls me in from the beginning of his books all the way till the end. For those of you who know me personally, you know how much I LOVE curling up with a new horror or paranormal book and a cup of tea!

Title: The Flip
Genre: Paranormal/Horror
Audience: Mature Teen/ Adult (It does have adult situations in it)

Synopsis:
Julie and Brad Evans are house flippers. They buy low, clean out the old occupants junk, and try to make a profit. Enter Hemmings House on Bedlam Street in scenic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Too good a deal to pass up, but with an ominous secret. The old Victorian Mansion has dwellers that do not want to be dispossessed. As the house reveals it's past, will the couples marriage survive The Flip?

My Thoughts on This Book:
Since I have now read a couple of other books by Michael Phillip Cash and really enjoyed them, I was pretty sure I was going to enjoy this one as well. Michael's writing style is just what I really like to read. He's straight forward, cuts right into the action, and knows how to keep your eyes glued to the book.
This book made me think of events in my own life (as did one of his other books), because my husband's family is actually in the house flipping business. No joke. I completely understand the hell one can go through trying to completely redo an entirely wrecked house. It takes A LOT of time and patience to remodel every tiny piece of a house and make it into something more valuable-something that you can make a decent profit off of. I have worked on some of these houses from beginning to end. It is definitely not an easy job, especially when your life is dependent entirely upon the money you plan to make off of the house.
So, yes I was able to relate to both of the main characters in the book. In more ways than one.
I've worked on a couple of houses in which I've heard unexplained noises. I've heard footsteps, voices, seen shadows, and much more. Reading this book made me feel like I was back in some of those houses. Thank you Michael for re-instilling some of that long forgotten fear. Haha.
Now, many people might not find this book scary. There's not any really horrific scenes in it. Not a whole bunch of murder and gore like many of the paranormal and horror books I've read. In fact, if I had never experienced similar ghostly events, I probably wouldn't find it too scary either. That is what I liked the most about this book though. It made the book more interesting to me, WAY more real.
So, about the story,
Brad and Julie have flipped a few houses before with little to no problem. So what's another house, right?
Well, this latest house, although it does seem to have some great potential, in Julie's mind, may just be their most difficult project. Brad is less than enthusiastic about it because he realizes how much work this place is going to take. But Julie just can't seem to let this place go. She's just blinded by the dollar signs she imagines that it will bring and the hope that she will be able to quit her current job with her disgusting boss. If only Julie knew what was really going on in that old Victorian house...
Michael weaves back and forth through time, from the previous couple who lived there to Julie and Brad. Their lives somehow intertwine which makes the book even more interesting.
Paranormal activity happening left and right, along with a sad love story added in as well.

There are also some parts that will surprise you, which you come to expect if you've ever read any of his other books.
The book has a decent ending but I will not ruin that for you.

(This is what I received in the mail. The little flip flop was a cute touch)

I did enjoy reading this book, however, my favorite is still his other, Brood X. The Flip, actually reminded me a little bit of Stillwell, which was his first book that I read. This book was a very quick read. I finished it in one whole day. Looking forward to reading another one very soon!

About the Author:
Born and raised on Long Island, Michael has always had a fascination with horror writing and found footage films. He wanted to incorporate both with his debut novel, Brood X. Earning a degree in English and an MBA, he has worked various jobs before settling into being a full-time author. He currently resides on Long Island with his wife and children.

Moving is almost rarely enjoyable. I mean, you have to pack up all your stuff just to unpack it again somewhere else?
